 Borgo Storico Seghetti Panichi

“A large 17th century villa with five bedroom suites and further five apartment suites in the San Pancrazio period residence, all set in magnificent gardens, designed in 19th century by the German landscape gardener Ludwig Winter”

The Borgo Storico Seghetti Panichi, set approximately 10 kms from the sea and 8 kms from the medieval town of Ascoli Piceno comprises a large 17th century villa and chapel, and the San Pancrazio residence, a 17th century building sheltered by the old castle walls, all set in a historic garden designed between 1875 and 1890 by the renowned German botanist and landscape architect Ludwig Winter.

The imposing red brick villa is the centrepiece of the Borgo. All five spacious bedrooms (Gigli, Winter, Blu, Roma and Orientale) look out over the gardens and have been sumptuously refurnished with beautiful wallpapers, new bathrooms, fine fabrics and ceiling fans. Visitors are welcome to sit and read in the formal sitting rooms and can also enjoy dinner in the dining room.

The gardens, designed in ‘romantic’ style with towering palms, oaks, exotic and unusual plants and a lake with statues and a Japanese bridge, will delight any garden lover.

At one end of the property, there is the San Pancrazio residence, where some stables have been converted into 4 one bedroom and 2 two bedroom apartment suites. As in the villa, these suites (Sibilla, Tronto, Lotto, Crivelli and Adriatico), with equipped kitchenettes and air conditioning, have been furnished to the very highest standards with elegant country pieces. The sofa, chairs and bedspreads have been upholstered in beautiful local fabrics in rich colours of yellow, greens, reds and blues. All the bathrooms have been clad in travertine and red Siena marble. Particular mention must be made of the sunny and spacious Sibilla suite with beautiful deep yellow and cream upholstery.

The swimming pool (6x6 mt, 1,70 depth), set into a paved terrace with views out over the valley, and small but well-equipped gym with sauna, is at the disposal of those guests who wish to relax without being disturbed or seen (open from 1st of April to the 30th of September). Inside the Villa, guests will be able to use a billiards room and a peaceful drawing room to read or listen to music.

The old stables house exhibition rooms, together with a 'shop' where the best examples of local craftsmanship, souvenirs and customized gardening tools are sold; in the same area, a ‘coffee house’ opens in the evening for those who want to enjoy a glass of wine or a cocktail in a relaxing atmosphere.

The family Cellar, built at the end of the 19th century, is not far from the Borgo Storico Seghetti Panichi. Here two local D.O.C. wines are produced: Rosso Piceno and Falerio dei Colli Ascolani. These wines are notable for their high quality and respect for traditional production methods. Visitors can also buy many other typical local products made according to age-old Marche recipes.

The owners of the Borgo Storico welcomes their guests as friends and take great care to ensure they feel at home. The Borgo Storico is associated with the association of 'Le Marche Segrete' that organizes tours of private residences and gardens and wine tasting in the best cellars of the Region.

Visitors at the Borgo Storico have much enjoyed touring the southern Marche. Highlights include Ascoli Piceno – ‘a jewel of sculpted pale-grey travertine’ with a handsome main square and Roman, Medieval and Renaissance monuments, and the town of Offida, Macerata, Fermo and other tiny hill towns of the interior.
